Baby Hammock

At Moonboon, we always refer to the recommendations issued by the health authorities. They have not issued any specific recommendations for the use of a baby hammock.

Your baby may, in principle, sleep in the hammock for as long as necessary. However, we recommend that you use the baby hammock as a supplement to a real bed, as your baby should also be able to sleep on a firm mattress.

If you are unsure about your baby’s sleep pattern and needs, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or health visitor.
You can easily use the baby hammock at night. However, it is important not to let him or her sleep in the baby hammock without supervision.

We recommend that you use the baby hammock as a supplement, as you baby also must have the opportunity to sleep on a firm mattress. The baby hammock should never replace a real bed.

We do not recommend using the baby hammock, as soon as your baby is able to turn over. Also be aware that your baby should be able to turn his/her head freely, and the head must not be pressed against the chest.

At Moonboon, we always provide guidance according to the health authorities, but at the moment there are no specific recommendations about using a baby hammock. If you are unsure about your baby’s sleep pattern and needs, we recommend that you speak to your doctor or health visitor.
When the hammock arrives from Moonboon, you will find the organic kapok mattress tucked into its internal pocket. Being a natural material, the kapok inside the mattress may “settle” and retain the bend it had during shipping. This may cause the lopsidedness. Fortunately, there is an easy fix: Take the mattress out of the hammock and manually redistribute and even out the kapok filling. Work especially on the filling in the side that baby tended to roll toward. Then place the mattress back into the hammock's pocket. It is important that you tie the hammock’s 4 ties securely to help it hang straight. This applies to the two ties at the sides to be fastened to the cross bar and the two ties at the top of the hammock.
The Moonboon hammock may be washed by hand at just over 40 degrees C / 100 degrees F. We do not recommend machine washing as the metal ring of the hammock may cause damage to your washing machine.

The internal kapok mattress does not tolerate being laundered, but it benefits from being aired outdoors once a month or so. Kapok is a hypoallergenic and breathable natural fiber that would be degraded if washed. We recommend that you clean minor stains by rubbing a small amount of soap and water on it.
Yes indeed. Ceilings differ in terms of the materials they are made of. Concrete, drywall / gypsum, and wood, as examples, have different characteristics. Each type of ceiling will require a specific type of hook. That is why we do not include a hook with your Moonboon purchase.

We recommend that you check with your local building center or home improvement store and ask for guidance in terms of hanging the hammock securely.

It is generally recommended that you hang any weight from a structural beam in the ceiling.

Moonboon Motor

The hammock motor from Moonboon is compatible with most hammocks on the market, but it is developed especially to be used with the Moonboon hammock and spring.

Our motor will be helpful to you even if you have a hammock of a different brand – for example, from Nature’s Sway or Nonomo. If used with the Nonomo spring and hammock, the Moonboon motor will work only with babies of 6 kg / 13 lbs or above, while the minimum weight of the baby is 4 kg / 8.8 lbs when the motor is used with a Moonboon hammock.

It is important that there be no more than 15 cm / 6 inches of chain between the motor and the ceiling if baby weighs less than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs.
For security reasons, the chain above the motor may not exceed 15 cm / 6 inches when baby weighs less than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs. If the chain above the motor is longer, the motor may begin to swing from side to side.
The motor may hang in a chain that is no longer than 15 cm / 6 inches when baby weighs less than 8 kg / 17.6 lbs. If your ceiling is high, we suggest you suspend the hammock in a tripod stand or from a door frame clamp. As an example, if your ceiling height is 3 m / 10 feet, hanging the hammock from a hook will end up suspending the hammock too high up.

This is not a risk to your child's safety, but it will be more difficult for you to get baby settled in the hammock.
Parents of twins will especially enjoy the benefits of a hammock with a motor. We are currently developing a spring and a hammock designed for twins that will work with our motor. Our motor is not tested for use with springs designed for twins and with other brands of hammocks.
Safety takes highest priority for us here at Moonboon, especially when it comes to the hammock motor. At this time, it has not been possible to manufacture a completely quiet motor without compromising our values related to safety.

We continually develop our products using the latest technology. Therefore, our latest model of motor features a sound dampening shell.
